The Decent Homes Standard will be extended to the private rented sector as part of the later phase of the Renters’ Rights Act. Properties will need to meet minimum standards for safety, repair, heating, insulation, damp and mould.
The standard is not yet in force for private landlords, and the Government has not confirmed a commencement date. Landlords should nevertheless start reviewing their properties now to prepare for the forthcoming requirements.
